The Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project in Morobe Province has received a key environmental approval from the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, bringing the multi-billion-dollar mine one step closer to development.
The project, a joint venture between Harmony Gold and Newcrest Mining, is expected to be one of the largest copper-gold mines in the world when it reaches full production. The approval covers the environmental impact assessment for the proposed underground mine and associated infrastructure.
