Retail sales in Port Moresby have surged to their highest level in three years, signalling a broad-based recovery in consumer confidence following the economic disruptions of recent years, according to data from the PNG Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The chamber's quarterly retail survey found that 68% of retailers reported higher sales volumes in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, with the strongest gains recorded in electronics, home furnishings, and food and beverage.
